Our next Amnesty Fukuoka event is on Sunday 15th June from 4-6pm at Asumin NPO Centre (2-6-46 Daimyo (5F), Chuo-ku - next door to the fire station on Meiji-dori).

At this time you can learn about and discuss the current situation in Darfur and find out how you can help. Everyone is welcome and we will try to make the event as bi-lingual as possible. As well as hearing a presentation and watching some films, we will also do some letter-writing so that members can make a difference right away! These letters will be our ammunition in bringing about change in the war-torn region where atrocities are taking place everyday. So please come and spend your Sunday afternoon with us, and then join us for food and drinks afterwards if you have time.

On May 22nd, Amnesty International Fukuoka English Language Group will host an awareness raising event at Volume, a bar in Daimyo.

Supporting these efforts are a worldwide mix of musicians and music including a NPO Tiempo Iberoamericano flamenco guitarist, Luciano Cámara, from Brazil, guitar/violin duet Tim and Freya, digeridoo maestro Makoto, and some good ol' rock and roll courtesy of local heroes, The Cigavettes.

Everyone will have the chance to take part in multi-media actions for change, and videos of Amnesty's human rights work worldwide will also be screened.

Entry is 500yen (includes one drink!)
Donations in support of Amnesty International will be gratefully received.

Make change happen. Stand with Amnesty and exercise your power to stop grave human rights violations.

With 29 people in attendance, a presentation on homelessness from the Big Issue Magazine was followed by an engaged discussion on the basis for homelessness around the world and in Japan.

Our thanks to the Fukuoka Big Issue Magazine Support Group, and especially to our speakers Sachiyo Hoshino and Hiroshi Hoshino, for their outstanding presentation.

'The Big Issue' Meeting. Come to learn and discuss about homelessness in Japan. The 'Big Issue' is a social enterprise that is working to end the cycle of homelessness. Perhaps you have seen them around town? The Big Issue sells a quality magazine on timely social issues, and their vendors are homeless people who directly benefit from your support. We need every person's support to have this meeting filled to help raise awareness about this initiative in Fukuoka, and to discuss the issues of homelessness in Japan and worldwide. The presentation will be in English and Japanese.
